Who Are We?

Esperance of Adria is a chapter of the Adrian Empire, a nonprofit educational medieval and renaissance recreation organization.

Our members study and recreate the arts, skills, culture, and combat of the period between 793 and 1625.

We conduct regular tournaments featuring archery, historic European marshal art (combat) and Arts & Sciences, participate in camping events throughout the year, and provide educational demonstrations at schools, fairs, markets, libraries, and community events.

This weekly gathering is our opportunity to practice techniques, improve our skills, work on projects, share knowledge, and spend time together between official events.

As an educational organization, we thrive on welcoming and teaching newcomers.

No experience required. Come join us

Join us for our unofficial weekly gathering! Whether you’re looking to fight, drum, work on projects, learn new skills, or simply spend time with good company, there’s a place for you in our yard.

? We typically arrive around 5:00 PM and stay until 7:00 or 8:00 PM, depending on the weather, energy, and how much fun we’re having.

? We rotate between different parks and locations, so be sure to check our weekly posts to see where we’ll be meeting.

After practice, we often gather at a local restaurant or brewery for food, drinks, and conversation. We always choose locations that are family and kid friendly, so everyone is welcome to continue the evening with us.

What Should You Bring?

For everyone:

? Plenty of water
? Sunscreen
? Hat or sun protection
? A chair
? A throw rug, blanket, or something comfortable to sit on
? A snack
? A light jacket for later in the evening
? Projects, crafts, or documentation you’re working on
? Drums or instruments for music practice
? Notebook and pen for notes, ideas, or tests

Fighter Practice Basics

If you’re planning on fighting, don’t worry if you don’t have everything yet. We have loaner gear and can help you get started.

? Long pants (required)
? Closed-toe shoes (required)
?️ Men: Athletic cup (required)
? Layers and more layers! Sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets work great for padding. Bring more than you think you’ll need.
? Gloves (leather work gloves or motorcycle gloves work well)
? Elbow and knee pads
? Any sports protective gear you already own

Loaner gear is available, but limited. We have a small supply of basic gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, gorgets, and fencing masks available for newcomers to borrow.

Fellow members will often share weapons and equipment to help new fighters get started, but this is never automatic. Please always ask before picking up or using someone else’s weapons, armor, or gear. Respect for each other’s equipment helps keep our practice safe and welcoming for everyone.

New fighters are encouraged to come out even if they don’t have all their gear yet. We can help you figure out what you need and get you safely on the field.
